Deputy General Counsel

An exciting inhouse Legal opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, experienced, dynamic Deputy General Counsel. You'll oversee all of our legal operations and join our Senior Leadership Team. You’ll be a legal professional with extensive experience in commercial law, data privacy and corporate law. You’ll play a critical role in shaping the legal landscape of our company and contributing to strategic decision-making processes. Location: Kings Cross, London. Hybrid working applies. 3 days in the office. 2 working from home. 

Where do you fit in?

Reporting to the Group General Counsel, you'll provide effective legal counsel with a sharp commercial lens on all aspects of Checkatrade’s activities. You’ll deliver the highest standard of legal excellence and commercial advice at all times. You'll demonstrate exceptional leadership and decision-making capabilities. You'll manage the day to day engagement with all external law firms and support to all business stakeholders on a wide range of legal issues. You'll draft commercial contracts such as service agreements, partnership agreements and supplier contracts. Together with the Data Privacy team, you’ll collaborate with all business stakeholders and external third parties to ensure the company’s compliance with data protection laws, including GDPR, and oversee the implementation of data privacy policies and procedures. What do you need to succeed?

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK with a extensive experience post-qualification.
  • Solid experience in commercial law, data privacy, and corporate law, preferably within the technology sector together with a proven track record of over delivering on objectives and providing strategic legal advice and support to senior management.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing a legal team and excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of the legal and regulatory landscape affecting technology businesses and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • High energy, relentless in the pursuit of legal excellence, and dedicated to delivering the highest quality internal advice and support.
  • Must be familiar with and able to adopt new and existing legal technologies to advance innovation.
