About The Role

Software Engineer – Data 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer to join our team. You’ll work at the cross junction of our Engineering and Data teams, developing data products that deliver value across whole of Checkatrade. Best of both worlds! Right? You’ll leverage the power of data to optimise internal and external processes. We put data front and centre, so will you!  One of your key focus areas will be to democratise our data to the wider business and develop easy to consume interfaces. This will help us scale-up faster! You’ll join us at an exciting time with top-leadership team on board and an exciting five-year plan that will see us growing ten-fold. Your front-end experience includes CSS, JavaScript, HTML and back-end Python, PostgreSQL. Sound like you? We'd love to hear from you! 

Location: London or Portsmouth. Hybrid working applies. 3 days minimum in the office. 

 Where do you fit in? 

You’ll report to a Software Engineering Manager with a matrix dotted line to Head of Data.  You’ll design and develop web applications by assisting with initial requirement gathering, system design, coding, testing and deployment. You’ll identify and solve complex problems, whilst writing and maintaining clear documentation for any productionised solution. You’ll design and build data pipelines to transform raw data into usable format and easy to consume interfaces both back and front end. You’ll also ensure optimal system performance through varied testing methods inc. unit testing, integration testing and system testing. You are passionate about data and development and skilled in bridging the gap between business requirements and technical capabilities. Your passion for latest tech and software development practises drives you daily! What do you need to succeed? 

  • Previous experience in a similar Full Stack role developing data products. Your background will be in a fast paced tech or marketplace set up where communication and collaboration have been key. 
  • Technical skills across CSS, JavaScript, HTML at the front end and Python PostgreSQL at the back end. 
  • Knowledge of GCP (CloudBuild, ClourRun, Firestore, etc) and Rust highly desirable. 
  • Confidence with data and skilled in manipulating and creating data solutions. 
  • You’ll get bonus points for our nice to haves: 
  • Strong knowledge of API additions and specifically OpenAPI 
  • OIDC Server log in 
  • Kubernetes infrastructure experience
