Location: London or Portsmouth based. Hybrid working applies with 2 days in office, 3 days at home.
Where do you fit in?
Reporting to an Engineering Manager, you'll act as the technical expert on an exciting project advocating for best practice. In fact, you'll be our first technical team member of what will eventually be a pod of 3-8 engineers working on Secure Contacts product. The role of a Staff Engineer at Checkatrade is to focus on key strategic projects to provide clarity during planning and estimation. You'll ensure the resolution of bugs and tech debt and manage risk proactively whilst coaching the wider tech team. Our Secure Contacts product is all about the connection between Checkatrade and our telephony provider. This means, you'll ultimately be responsible for the primary way homeowners get in contact with trades on our website and by phone. Ideally you'll have a .NET background, however, we are open to exploring a variety of tech stacks and approaches. Day to day, you'll provide technical steer, oversee infrastructural changes and ensure regular, incremental feature and system improvements. What do you need to succeed?
- You'll have hands-on experience in software system design, architecture, development, testing and monitoring covering both backend and frontend.
- You'll have expert level of development experience in at least one modern programming language. You'll also be skilled in agnostically choosing the language that suits a project.
- You'll be up to date with modern software engineering practices relating to design, development, testing and maintenance. You'll also be experienced in professional software development practices and tools, including GitHub and Jira.
- You'll be an accomplished technical senior with experience working closely with Product Managers to deliver high quality products.
- Google Cloud experience, or equivalent.
